palliMEDS app - NEW 2023 VERSION NOW AVAILABLE

The palliMEDS app familiarises primary care prescribers with eight palliative care medicines that have been endorsed by the Australian & New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine (ANZSPM) for management of terminal symptoms. The ANZSPM-endorsed medicines can be used to manage common emergent symptoms in home-based palliative care patients in the last few weeks of life, when people often have problems swallowing.

The palliMEDS app is free and can be downloaded from:

  • The Opioid Calculator includes a wider range of opioid medicines and administration routes (previously only subcutaneous). The calculator is designed to provide support to a clinician where a palliative care patient needs to be switched from some, or all, of their current opioids, to a replacement opioid delivered by an alternative route.
  • Colour-coding of administration routes throughout the Opioid Calculator
  • Minor updates to clinical information and State/Territory contacts
  • Color changes to meet accessibility guidelines.

The app can be used offline (without internet connection), which makes it ideal for clinicians caring for patients in rural and remote areas of Australia. palliMEDS will help contribute to the provision of quality palliative care for the increasing number of Australians who wish to be cared for, and to die at home, if possible.

Please note: The palliMEDS app is a collaboration between NPS MedicineWise and caring@home. NPS MedicineWise ceased operations on 31 December 2022. There are no disruptions in the operation of the app and all information remains current.
